The latest European Electric Car Study published by Schmidt Automotive Research since 2019, among other things covers the Chinese OEM inventory dump in June, prior to provisional tariffs being retrospectively implemented from July if EU Council members pass the tariff-hike later this year.

VW Group’s predatory pricing move to increase BEV volumes in Q1, in response to the domestic subsidy withdrawal began to see those orders converted to deliveries preventing greater regional summer losses than expected, following a corporate volume pull-forward during the same period last year. Italy’s June BEV subsidy introduction also assisted the region produce a more stable June than expected.

The study also covers significant potential tailwinds for Chinese OEMs on the horizon looking to compensate for tariff headwinds in 2025, among other topics, including the market forecast to 2030.
