Level 3 autonomy is the uncanny valley of AV tech. It is defined as “conditional driving automation” and allows the driver to take his eyes off the street for a while. At least until the car requests or requires the driver to take control during emergency situations. This article reviews the current status of level 3 autonomy and reveals why some experts think that some OEMs might skip level 3 autonomy and develop level 4 directly.
